Who or what is this?

was a member of the tribe of , specifically of the clan of Zerah, and the father of Carmi. He is known as the grandfather of Carmi and the great-grandfather of , the who violated the ban (herem) at by taking devoted spoils — a garment, silver, and gold — and hiding them in his tent. When cast lots to identify the offender, the lot fell upon Achan, and the full genealogy from Zabdi through Carmi to Achan is recited as the culprit is exposed. The episode is recounted in Joshua 7.
