Urijah son of Shemaiah was a prophet from Kiriath-jearim who proclaimed an oracle against and the land of in the days of King , words similar in character to those of . When Jehoiakim and his officials sought to kill him, Urijah fled to , but the king sent Elnathan son of Achbor and others after him. They brought Urijah back from Egypt, and Jehoiakim executed him with the sword and cast his body into the graves of the common people. His fate is recounted in Jeremiah 26 as a foil to Jeremiah's own deliverance through the intervention of Ahikam son of .
