Terah was a descendant of and the father of Abram (later ), Nahor, and . He lived 205 years according to Genesis 11. After the death of his son Haran in , Terah took Abram, Abram's wife , and his grandson Lot and set out for the land of , but the family stopped and settled at Haran, where Terah died. The New Testament book of Acts recounts that the God of glory appeared to Abraham while still in , before his departure from Haran, suggesting the journey had deeper divine purpose. 24 notes that Terah and his fathers served other gods beyond the River.
