Benjamite from of the clan of Saul who comes out throwing stones and dust at as the king flees from , cursing him as a man of blood reaping the punishment of Saul's house. asks to take off his head, but David restrains him, saying Yahweh has told Shimei to curse. When David returns in triumph Shimei rushes to meet him with a thousand Benjamites and is spared, but on his deathbed David charges not to hold him guiltless, and Solomon eventually has him struck down for breaking his confinement to .
