Sheshbazzar
The prince of Judah appointed by Cyrus to lead the first return from Babylon and lay the foundation of the second Temple.
Who is this?
Sheshbazzar, called the prince of , was appointed by the king as the leader of the first group of Jewish exiles to return from to the land of Judah. Cyrus entrusted him with the gold and silver vessels had taken from the temple, which Sheshbazzar carried back (Ezra 1:8–11). He is credited with laying the foundation of the house of God in Jerusalem (Ezra 5:14–16). His precise identity — whether he was the same person as or a separate figure, and whether he was of Davidic lineage — has been debated; the Bible presents him only in these Ezra passages.
