Who or what is this?
Shemer was the owner of the hill in central that King of Israel purchased for two talents of silver and used as the site of his new capital city. Omri named the city after Shemer, the hill's former owner (1 Kings 16:24). Beyond this single transaction, the Bible records nothing further about Shemer; his significance lies entirely in giving his name to what became the most important city of the northern kingdom.
