Who or what is this?
Shebna held the high office of palace steward ("over the household") in during the reign of King . The prophet delivered a sharp oracle against him, denouncing his self-aggrandizing construction of a rock-hewn tomb and declaring that God would remove him from office and replace him with Eliakim son of Hilkiah (Isa. 22:15–25). Shebna subsequently appears in a reduced capacity as the royal when Hezekiah sends him and Eliakim to negotiate with the at the time of 's invasion (2 Kings 18:18, 37; Isa. 36:3, 22), suggesting the demotion Isaiah prophesied had taken effect.
