Who is this?
Seraiah was the chief priest in at the time of the city's destruction by the under . When Jerusalem fell in 586 BC, Nebuchadnezzar's captain seized Seraiah and brought him to , where Nebuchadnezzar had him executed (2 Kings 25:18–21; Jer. 52:24–27). His lineage was remembered: he is cited in 1 Chronicles 6 and Ezra 7 as an ancestor of Ezra the , giving the post-exilic scribe a direct sacerdotal pedigree reaching back to the Aaronic priesthood.
