Serah is listed in Genesis 46 among the members of 's household who went down to , identified as the daughter of Asher. She is one of the very few women named individually in the patriarchal genealogical lists. The same name appears in Numbers 26 in the census of the tribe of Asher, and she is mentioned again in 1 Chronicles 7 in the genealogy of Asher. The later rabbinic tradition developed extensive legends around her longevity, but the biblical text itself records only her place in the genealogical registers of the tribe of Asher.
