and his brother Baanah were sons of , a Beerothite of , who served as captains under Ish-bosheth, the son of Saul. According to 2 Samuel 4, the two brothers entered Ish-bosheth's house at midday while he was resting and assassinated him, cutting off his head and bringing it to at , expecting a reward. David, however, condemned them for slaying a righteous man in his own house, ordered them executed, and had their hands and feet cut off and their bodies hung over the pool at Hebron, while Ish-bosheth's head was buried in 's tomb.
