Who is this?
is identified in Jeremiah 35 as the founder of the community through his son Jonadab (Jehonadab) son of Rechab. Jonadab commanded his descendants to drink no wine, build no houses, sow no seed, and live in tents all their days. Jeremiah 35 records that when Jeremiah tested the Rechabites during the crisis by offering them wine, they refused, citing their ancestor's command. God used their obedience as a rebuke to 's disobedience, and the Rechabites were promised that Jonadab son of Rechab would never lack a man to stand before God. Rechab is also associated in 1 Chronicles 2 with the clans connected to Judah.
