Who or what is this?

Pharez (also spelled Perez) was born to and his daughter-in-law Tamar in a remarkable narrative in Genesis 38, where Tamar disguised herself to secure offspring through Judah after her first two husbands died and Judah withheld his third son. Pharez was one of twins; his brother Zerah thrust out his hand first but Pharez broke through, giving him his name meaning "breach." He became the ancestor of the Pharzites, one of the clans of Judah, and through his son Hezron he stands in the direct lineage of and ultimately of , as recorded in 4, 1, and 3.
