Pharaoh of Egypt who killed King Josiah at Megiddo, installed Jehoiakim as vassal, and was later routed by Nebuchadnezzar at Carchemish.
Who or what is this?
Pharaoh Necho II of Egypt marched north through around 609 BC to support against the rising power. King of went out to intercept him at despite Necho's insistence that God had commanded the expedition; Josiah was fatally wounded in the battle (2 Kgs 23:29–30; 2 Chr 35:20–24). Necho then deposed Josiah's son Jehoahaz after three months and installed Eliakim — renaming him — as a vassal king, imposing a heavy tribute on the land (2 Kgs 23:33–35). Several years later Necho's army was decisively defeated by at Carchemish, ending power in the Levant (Jer 46:2).
