Who or what is this?
Nahash king of threatened to gouge out the right eye of every man in Jabesh-gilead as a condition of treaty, prompting an appeal that moved Saul to his first military action — a decisive relief of the city that solidified Saul's kingship (1 Sam 11). Years later, when Nahash died, sent envoys to comfort his son Hanun, "because his father showed kindness to me" (2 Sam 10:2; 1 Chr 19:2). Hanun's insulting treatment of those envoys triggered a major –Aramean war against David.
