Mishael was a son of Uzziel, who was a younger brother of 's father Amram, making Mishael a cousin of Aaron and . When Nadab and , Aaron's sons, were struck dead by fire before the LORD for offering unauthorized incense, Moses called on Mishael and his brother Elzaphan to carry their bodies out of the camp in their priestly garments (Lev 10:4). Moses instructed them not to mourn publicly, as the rest of Israel could but the priests at that solemn moment were not to show grief.
