Sister of and , living in the village of near . tells of her sitting at the feet of while Martha serves, and John describes her grief at the tomb of Lazarus and Jesus' raising of her brother. Shortly before the passion she anoints Jesus' feet with costly perfume and wipes them with her hair, an act Jesus interprets as preparation for his burial.
