Who or what is this?

Manoah was a man from Zorah belonging to the , whose wife was barren. The angel of the LORD appeared to her and announced that she would conceive and bear a son who was to be a from birth and would begin to deliver Israel from the Philistines. Manoah prayed for the angel to return with further instructions, and when the man of God appeared again, Manoah prepared an offering. When the angel ascended in the flame of the altar, Manoah feared that they would die for having seen God, but his wife reassured him. Their son was , one of the judges of Israel. Manoah lived to see Samson's early exploits and attended his ill-fated wedding at Timnah.
