Who is this?
Kenan was an antediluvian patriarch in the Sethite line, recorded as the son of and the father of Mahalalel. Genesis 5 states that he lived nine hundred and ten years in total. He appears again in the genealogy of 1 Chronicles 1 and in 's genealogy tracing the lineage of back through the patriarchs. Beyond his place in the genealogical record, no deeds or narrative events are associated with Kenan in the biblical text. The KJV spells the name ; Luke's genealogy also lists a second, later Cainan, the son of Arphaxad (Luke 3:36), who is a distinct figure.
