Joseph

Favored son of Jacob and Rachel whose dreams of sheaves and stars provoke his brothers to sell him to traders bound for Egypt. In Egypt he is enslaved in Potiphar's house, falsely accused, and imprisoned, then rises to second only to Pharaoh's predecessor after interpreting dreams of seven years of plenty and famine. He preserves both Egypt and his own family through the famine, testing and finally revealing himself to his brothers and bringing Jacob's household down to Goshen. His sons Ephraim and Manasseh become two tribes of Israel, and his bones are carried up from Egypt and buried at Shechem.
