Who or what is this?

One of the pre-Israelite kings of Edom listed in Genesis 36 and 1 Chronicles 1, the son of Zerah of Bozrah, who succeeded Bela son of Beor on the throne. The list of Edomite kings in Genesis 36 records that each king succeeded the previous one without reference to dynastic inheritance, suggesting an elective or non-hereditary monarchy in early Edom. Jobab is one of eight such kings enumerated before Israel had any king.
