The name Joah is shared by several distinct individuals in the Old Testament. The most prominent is the son of who served as recorder under King and was sent along with Eliakim and to meet the field commander outside the walls of , during which Rabshakeh delivered his threatening speech; Joah and the others reported back to Hezekiah in torn garments (2 Kings 18; 36). A second Joah is listed as a , son of Zimmah, in the genealogy of the Gershonite musicians who assisted in Hezekiah's temple cleansing (2 Chronicles 29). Others of the same name appear in Levitical genealogies in 1 Chronicles 6 and 26.
