Who or what is this?

A military commander, son of the Maachathite, who came to at after the destruction of ( 40; 2 Kings 25). He is likely the same person called son of the Maachathite in 2 Kings 25:23. After the assassination of Gedaliah, Jezaniah was among the captains who approached the prophet Jeremiah and asked him to inquire of God whether the remnant should stay in or flee to Egypt, though ultimately the people disregarded Jeremiah's counsel and fled anyway.
