Ephraimite servant of to whom the prophet tears a robe into twelve pieces, promising him ten tribes after Solomon's death. He returns from Egypt to lead the northern revolt and sets up rival sanctuaries with golden calves at and Dan to keep his people from worshiping in . His name becomes the standard formula for royal apostasy in Kings, where later northern rulers walk in the sin of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
