King of Judah hidden as an infant by the high priest Jehoiada, who later repaired the temple but was assassinated after turning from God.
Who or what is this?
King of , also known as Joash, who was hidden in as an infant by the priest when Queen attempted to destroy the royal line. He was crowned at age seven and reigned forty years in , and under Jehoiada's guidance he initiated a collection and repair of the temple. After Jehoiada died, however, Joash fell under the influence of the princes of Judah, allowed idolatry to return, and had Jehoiada's son Zechariah stoned when he prophesied against the apostasy. He later paid tribute to of to prevent an attack on Jerusalem and was assassinated by his own servants (2 Kings 11–12; 2 Chronicles 22–24).
