When news of Israel's victories in the south reached him, Jabin organized a coalition of northern kings, assembling a vast army with horses and chariots at the waters of . God told Joshua not to fear, and Israel fell upon the coalition suddenly, routing the army, hamstringing the horses, and burning the chariots. Joshua then turned back to capture Hazor — described as the head of all the northern kingdoms — and put Jabin to the sword and burned the city.
