Hur was one of the five kings of Midian who were slain by the in the campaign recorded in Numbers 31. commanded Israel to wage war against Midian in retribution for the events of Baal-peor, and the Israelite army killed the five kings — Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and — along with son of Beor. 13 refers back to this event when describing the allotment of land in Transjordan.
