Hashabiah
Levite who joined Ezra's return from Babylon and later sealed the covenant under Nehemiah.
Who is this?
A prominent active in the post-exilic restoration community. Ezra 8 records that Hashabiah was one of the Levite leaders summoned by Ezra to join the return from , and he was entrusted with carrying silver, gold, and sacred vessels back to . He appears again in Nehemiah 10 among those who set their seal to the renewed covenant, and in Nehemiah 11 a Hashabiah is named as an officer over the Levites who settled in Jerusalem. The name was common among Levites of the period, and some references may concern related individuals.
