Who or what is this?
Hadadezer son of Rehob was king of , an Aramean kingdom north of , and became one of the principal military opponents of King . In 2 8, David defeated Hadadezer in battle and captured his horsemen and chariots, hamstringing most of the chariot horses and taking large quantities of bronze. When the Syrians of Damascus came to aid Hadadezer, David also defeated them. A later confrontation is recorded in 2 Samuel 10, when Hadadezer's forces joined the Ammonites against Israel; after defeats in the field, the allies sued for peace and became subject to Israel. Tou king of , who had long been at war with Hadadezer, sent congratulations and gifts to David on hearing of the victory. In the KJV of Chronicles his name is spelled Hadarezer.
