Who or what is this?
God the Father is the designation used throughout the Bible for the divine being who creates, sustains, and governs all things. In the scriptures he is known by names including YHWH (the LORD) and Elohim, and he is presented as the God of , , and who enters into covenant with Israel, delivers his people from , gives the law at , and speaks through the prophets. In the New Testament he is repeatedly identified as the Father of Christ; Jesus teaches his disciples to pray to 'our Father in heaven,' and the apostolic letters consistently address him as the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ. theology confesses him as the first person of the Trinity.
