Who or what is this?
Gershom was the firstborn son of and his wife Zipporah, born during Moses' years of exile in while he lived with the priest. Exodus 2:22 records that Moses named him Gershom, explaining 'I have been a stranger in a strange land,' the name being a wordplay on the for sojourner. He appears with his mother and brother when Jethro brings the family to rejoin Moses in the wilderness after the Exodus. In 1 Chronicles 23:15–16, Gershom is listed as a son of Moses whose son Shebuel was chief officer over the treasuries. Judges 18:30 controversially names a as a descendant of Moses through this line.
