Who or what is this?
was an chieftain living near , brother to and , who had made a covenant of alliance with . When the four kings defeated the five kings of the plain and carried off Lot and his goods, Abraham armed his trained men and pursued them. Eshcol, Mamre, and Aner joined Abraham in this military expedition to recover Lot. After the victory, when the king of invited Abraham to keep the recovered goods, Abraham refused for himself but noted that Eshcol, Aner, and Mamre should receive their portion of the spoil. Eshcol's name is also borne by a valley near Hebron where the spies later cut a cluster of grapes.
