Who or what is this?
was a patriarch in the antediluvian line of , the seventh generation from as reckoned in Genesis 5. Genesis records that he lived 365 years and, uniquely among the pre-flood patriarchs, did not die: 'Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.' The repetition of the phrase 'walked with God' sets him apart as a figure of exceptional righteousness. He is listed again in the genealogy of 1 Chronicles 1 and appears in the genealogy of in 3:37. The Letter of quotes a prophecy attributed to Enoch concerning the coming judgment, and 11 cites him as an example of faith, saying that he was translated so as not to see death.
