Who is this?

Eldest of Job's three friends, hailing from Teman in Edom, who speaks first in each of the three cycles of dialogue. He grounds his counsel in a nocturnal vision and in the conventional wisdom that the righteous prosper while the wicked are cut off, urging Job to confess hidden sin. By the end of the book Yahweh rebukes Eliphaz and his two companions for not speaking rightly about him, and Job's intercession on their behalf is accepted.
