Eliasaph son of Deuel served as the appointed leader of the tribe of Gad during Israel's wilderness journey. He is named in Numbers when conducts the first census of the at , where the men of Gad who could serve in the army are counted under his oversight. He also appears in the account of the twelve tribal leaders who brought a succession of dedicatory offerings for the tabernacle at the conclusion of its consecration, presenting on behalf of Gad the same rich gift of silver, gold, incense, and livestock that the other princes offered in turn.
