King of Moab who oppressed Israel for eighteen years until the judge Ehud assassinated him with a concealed blade (Judges 3).
Who or what is this?
Eglon was king of who, with the support of the Ammonites and , subjugated Israel for eighteen years, establishing himself in the city of palm trees (). The cried to the LORD for deliverance, and he raised up son of , a Benjaminite who was left-handed. Ehud fashioned a double-edged dagger, brought tribute to Eglon — described as a very fat man — and after dismissing his attendants told the king he had a secret message from God. When Eglon rose from his seat, Ehud drove the blade into his belly, and the fat closed over the blade. Ehud escaped through the porch, and by the time Eglon's servants found the body the Israelite forces had cut off Moab's crossing points and killed some ten thousand (Judges 3:12–30).
