Edomite head of Saul's herdsmen who informed against David and massacred the priests of Nob at Saul's command (1 Samuel 21–22).
Who or what is this?
Doeg the is described as the chief of the herdsmen of King Saul. He was present at Nob when the fugitive came to the high priest , who gave David the and 's sword (1 21–22). Doeg reported this to Saul, and when Saul confronted and condemned the priests of Nob, none of his own men would strike them down. Doeg volunteered and slaughtered eighty-five priests, then destroyed the entire city of Nob — men, women, children, and animals. , one priest's son, escaped and joined David. The superscription of Psalm 52 associates that psalm with the time when Doeg informed against David, and David's response in the psalm is a meditation on treacherous speech and divine justice.
