Son of Barzillai the Gileadite who accompanied David back to Jerusalem after Absalom's rebellion and was shown royal favor at court.
Who or what is this?
Chimham was the son of Barzillai the Gileadite, the wealthy elder who had supplied King with provisions at during the rebellion of (2 17:27–29). When David prepared to return to after Absalom's defeat and death, Barzillai escorted him to the but declined David's invitation to come to court on account of his advanced age. Instead, Barzillai offered Chimham in his place, and David took him across the Jordan and treated him with favor at court (2 Samuel 19:37–40). The place name Geruth Chimham near , mentioned in 41:17, suggests that Chimham or his descendants held land there.
