Carcas is named in 1:10 as one of the seven chamberlains — court eunuchs — who served in the presence of of . On the seventh day of a royal banquet, the king commanded these seven men, including Carcas, to bring Queen before him so the assembled guests could see her beauty. Vashti refused, and the king's reaction to her refusal set in motion the events leading to Esther's elevation as queen. Carcas is not mentioned again after this single verse.
