The queen of Ethiopia whose high-ranking eunuch official was baptized by Philip the evangelist on the road from Jerusalem (Acts 8).
Who or what is this?
Candace is mentioned in Acts 8:27 as the queen of whose treasurer, a court eunuch, was returning from worship in when he encountered Philip the evangelist. The text describes the official as a man of great authority under Candace, reading from in his chariot. Philip joins him, explains the passage from Isaiah 53, and baptizes him. The name Candace was historically a title for the queens of the Nubian kingdom of Meroe rather than a personal name, but Acts uses it as the queen's designation.
