son of Uri, of the tribe of , is the artisan God selects and equips for the construction of the in the wilderness. In Exodus 31 God tells that he has called Bezalel by name, filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom and understanding and knowledge in every kind of craft, to design artistic works and to work in gold, silver, and bronze, as well as in stone and wood. He serves as chief artisan alongside , and Exodus 35–39 recounts in detail how Bezalel and the craftsmen carry out every element of the sanctuary according to God's instructions. This Bezalel is the same figure as the one titled "chief craftsman of the Tabernacle."
