Basemath was one of 's wives, identified in Genesis 26:34 as the daughter of Elon the . Esau married her when he was forty years old, and the text states that she and his other wife Judith "were a grief of mind unto and to " — their foreign marriages troubled his parents greatly. This Basemath should be distinguished from another wife of Esau named Basemath in Genesis 36:3, who is identified there as the daughter of , suggesting the name was used for more than one of his wives.
