Daughter of and and mother of Ahaziah king of , who seizes the throne after her son's death by killing all the royal heirs she can find. The infant Joash is hidden in by his aunt Jehosheba for six years until the priest brings him out, anoints him as king, and has Athaliah dragged out of the temple precincts and put to death at the Horse Gate.
