Who or what is this?
Arba is described in 14 as the greatest man among the , a race of formidable size whose presence in was a source of dread to the spies (Numbers 13). The city of bore his name — Kirjath-arba, meaning "city of Arba" — before Joshua renamed it Hebron, and this explanation is given in both Joshua 14 and 15 and in Judges 1. His son Anak became the eponymous ancestor of the Anakim. Beyond his role as the founding father of that giant clan and the namesake of Hebron, no narrative episodes involving Arba himself are recorded.
