Amon was the fifteenth king of , son of the long-reigning and father of the reforming king . He came to the throne at age twenty-two and reigned only two years in (c. 642–640 BC). The Books of Kings and Chronicles record that he followed his father's idolatrous ways without the repentance Manasseh is said to have made at the end of his life. His servants conspired against him and assassinated him in his own palace; the people of the land then killed the conspirators and placed his son Josiah on the throne (2 Kings 21; 2 Chronicles 33). He is listed in 's genealogy as an ancestor of .
