He stands in the line of descent from through Elkanah and is an ancestor of Heman, one of the three chief musicians appointed by for the temple. A separate reference in 1 Chronicles 15 names an Amasai among the priests who blew trumpets before the ark when David brought it to , and some scholars identify him with the Levite of the genealogy, though the text treats them as distinct entries.
