Who or what is this?
Alexander was a Jew present in during the riot sparked by the silversmith Demetrius over 's preaching against idols (Acts 19). The crowd pushed him forward, apparently to make a defense on behalf of the Jewish community—perhaps to dissociate from Paul's teaching and prevent anti-Jewish backlash. When the crowd recognized him as a Jew, however, they shouted him down with two hours of chanting for of the Ephesians, and he was unable to speak. He plays no further role in the narrative.
