Who or what is this?
Abishag was a beautiful young woman from in the region of who was brought to King in his extreme old age to warm him and attend to him, though the text specifies the king did not have conjugal relations with her (1 Kings 1). She was present during the episode of 's attempted succession. After David's death, Adonijah asked to petition King for permission to marry Abishag—a request Solomon interpreted as a claim to the throne, and he had Adonijah executed as a result (1 Kings 2).
