Who or what is this?
Abihu was the second son of and Elisheba, and thus a nephew of and a member of the first priestly family of Israel. Along with his father and brothers Nadab, Eleazar, and Ithamar, he was set apart for the priesthood at . In Exodus 24 he was among the seventy elders who ascended the mountain and beheld the God of Israel. His death is recorded in Leviticus 10 and Numbers 3: he and his brother Nadab offered 'strange fire' before the Lord—incense not commanded by God—and fire went out from the Lord and consumed them. Because he and Nadab died without sons, the priestly succession passed entirely to Eleazar and Ithamar.
