Who is this?

Descendants of , the son of and his wife Bilhah. The Danites are repeatedly enumerated in the wilderness censuses (Numbers 1, 2, 10, 26) and receive their original inheritance in the southwest (Joshua 19). When that territory proved insufficient, a large body of Danites migrated to the far north, captured the city of , put it to the sword, burned it, rebuilt it, and renamed it (Judges 18). They set up a carved image there that became a byword for northern idolatry. The tribe is remembered for its warriors, its eventual northern location, and its role in the religious schism under .
