What is this?
Tares, also called darnels or zizania, are weed-like plants—commonly identified with darnel (Lolium temulentum)—that can closely resemble wheat until their ears appear. That resemblance explains why ' parable leaves the plants to grow together until harvest: the tares picture the children of the evil one growing alongside the children of the kingdom until the righteous and the wicked are decisively separated.
